About the role
The Family and Domestic Violence Practitioner will respond to people experiencing and living with family and domestic violence and particularly identifying and supporting women and children at high risk.
What you'll be doing
- Respond to referrals from ATSI and mainstream services following an incident of family violence
- Conduct risk assessments and safety planning
- Schedule and conduct ongoing case management
- Provide advocacy, referrals, information and support.

- Brings experience in crisis support
- Is passionate about making a positive impact and supporting others with heart and purpose
Essential selection criteria
- Qualification in Community Services (minimum Cert 3) or equivalent, or demonstrated knowledge and experience
- Demonstrated experience engaging and working with women and children in a variety of settings
- Experience working within ATSI community
- Ability to network and develop effective working relationships at all levels of the community
- Child protection knowledge and experience beneficial - not essential
- High level written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to work co-operatively in a small team environment and independently
- Capacity to adapt to the evolving nature of the role and to identify and influence systemic change
- Ability to demonstrate initiative
- Computer literacy in a Windows environment.
Requirements
- A Blue Card for working with children ('No Card No Start' policy applies)
- National police check
- Current drivers' license.
- LCS2 clearance withing 3 months of commencing employment (this is a risk-assessed role under the Child Protection Act 1999)
- *IDENTIFIED POSITION - To perform this role it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. A Confirmation of Aboriginality will need to be provided.
