Job Description

Kalwun Development Corporation Ltd is an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisation currently seeking to fill the following vacancy within our Jellurgal division. Nestled at the base of Burleigh Head National Park, Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre is the Gold Coast’s only dedicated Aboriginal cultural centre, fully owned and operated by the local Aboriginal community

Jellurgal Cultural Tour Guides

An exciting opportunity exists for motivated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons to join Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre’s amazing team to provide cultural tours to visitors and the wider community. 

The roles, based at the centre in Burleigh Heads, are casual positions suited to individuals who are passionate about providing cultural tours around the Burleigh Headland. All on-the-job training will be provided under the guidance and support of the Jellurgal team. 

About the role

  • Lead guided walking tours of the beautiful Burleigh Headland and guided Cultural Cruises of the Gold Coast Broadwater
  • Share stories, history and knowledge of the local Aboriginal culture with visitors from around the world
  • Help plan and run tours for all group sizes including working with local schools and kindergartens
  • Build great connections with visitors, the community, Elders and tourism partners
  • No experience needed - receive full paid training and support on the job

We are looking for someone with passion, confidence, and a love for proudly sharing cultural knowledge and delivering warm, engaging visitor experiences.

Mandatory Terms

  • *IDENTIFIED POSITION - To perform this role it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. A Confirmation of Aboriginality will need to be provided.
  • All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply. Applications from Kombumerri and Yugambeh language-speaking people will be weighted accordingly.
  • This position requires the successful applicant to satisfy a national criminal history check and hold a current drivers' license.
  • A Blue Card for working with children is a mandatory requirement. The 'No Card No Start' law applies to this position - a Blue Card must be obtained prior to commencement.
